The GMC Savana was originally named as the “Rally wagon,” In 1990, the GMC Rally wagon was renamed as GMC Savana. The GMC Savana is a large sized passenger van that was updated in 1990. The most important update in Savana lineup was brought about in 1996. It was provided as a luxury-themed Savana SLT trim and a 3/4-ton 2500-series model.
Present GMC Savana
The traditional-wheelbase GMC Savana van is produced in
• 1-ton (3500) and
• Half-ton (1500) configurations.
The enhanced wheelbase edition (155-inch) is developed exclusively for 3500 Series. It is available in LT and LS trim levels. LT models are marketed with more advanced and sophisticated features, whereas LS models have only standard features. Based on the size of the model, eight to fifteen members can be accommodated in its interior.
All the GMC Savana models are produced with V8 engine. Coming to the 3500 model, it is equipped with an efficient 6.0-liter V8 engine that delivers
• 360 lb-ft of torque and
• 300 hp of power.
In case of 1500 version, the 5.3-liter V8 engine pushes out 335 pound-feet of torque and 295 horsepower. Both the power trains are connected to 4-speed automatic transmission. Most GMC Savanas are designed with rear-wheel drive mechanism, but GMC offers all-wheel drive mechanism for 1500. For 3500 series, GMC has also provided a traditional stability control system.
Some improvements had been made to GMC Savana in 2008. At that time, it was incorporated with safety features such as additional side curtain airbags and stability control. In this vehicle, it has better ergonomics with regulates that were intuitive effortless to access. The foot wells were congested, even overall space was high. Rear access could be upgraded with an optional 60/40-split driver-side back door or a flexible passenger-side door.
2010 GMC Savana
The 2010 GMC Savana lineup has three variants; 3500, 2500, and 1500. The 3500 and 2500 models are more powerful than 1500 model. Both the 3500 and 2500 models have bigger hauling and towing capabilities. The 3500 model is produced with enhanced wheelbase that improves the seating and cargo capacity.
Coming to the engine and transmission, the 2010 GMC Savana has a flexible V8 engine and both 3500 and 2500 models are currently using a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The GMC Savana has not acquired good rating in its appearance; however it does provide efficient performance. It has a more powerful V8 engine, which is superior to its Blue Oval rival, though not as good as that of its other rival Dodge Sprinter.
